In recent years, the South Florida Palm Society has conducted its Spring Show & Sale at the University of Miami. As part of the Society’s agreement with the university, we donate and install palms in the school’s palmetum after the start of the rainy season. Rain has been sparse so far this month, but in a show of faith in Mother Nature, we planted palms today.
The Palmetum, which runs alongside several buildings in the campus interior, was established in 1999, and many of the early palm specimens have reached impressive sizes.
Our crew of volunteers dug holes and installed, mulched and watered the new plants. Permanent tags will be added at a later date. Here are shots of many of the palms added this morning.
